Vedette set for summer retirement Voler La Vedette is to end her racing career this season and be retired to the paddocks, trainer Colm Murphy has revealed. The seven-year-old mare, who will not be in action at Cheltenham next week, has won nine of her 16 starts, including the Grade 2 Boyne Hurdle on her last start. "You won't see her next season as she is going to be covered. Unfortunately this is her last season racing," the County Wexford trainer told At The Races. "She's a different mare this year. She was like a scalded cat last year but she's stronger now and has grown up a lot and matured. "I think she's just a bit short of the top class on nice ground. I'm sure she could hold her own in Grade Ones on soft ground, but she's probably just a notch off the proper Grade Ones. "She's a little bit above Grade Two so she's somewhere in between. "She deserved to win her Grade Two the last day at Navan as she'd been knocking on the door the whole season. "Now she has settled I think we can step her up in trip."
