WELD MAKES PARTY PLANS

Party Airs will put his unbeaten record over timber on the line next month before a possible trip to Cheltenham for the JCB Triumph Hurdle in March.

The Dermot Weld-trained gelding made it three from three over hurdles with a fluent success in the Denny Juvenile Hurdle at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting.

'He`s an adaptable horse who handles soft ground very well, and I was delighted with his performance last time. He`s having an easy time of it at the moment, but I`ll look for a race around three weeks before Cheltenham and, if he wins it, he`ll go for the Triumph Hurdle,' said Weld, who won the big juvenile hurdle with Rare Holiday in 1990.

'However, I must warn punters that I`ve also got the Irish Lincoln (March 23) in mind for him. If the ground was on the quick side at Cheltenham then we would bypass the Festival and go for that before heading to Punchestown for their juvenile hurdle.'

Weld also issued an upbeat bulletin on Weatherbys Champion Bumper contender Govamix. 'He`s a nice horse but a bit immature at the moment. However, he`s strengthening up all the time, and I`m happy with him.'
