Whats New a ready winner for Slatterys Andy Slattery's Whats New got off the mark at the 13th time of asking with a stout-staying performance in the Roscommon Racecourse On Facebook Handicap over and extended mile-and-a-half. The 11/4 chance was there to be shot at a furlong and a-half out, but Andrew Slattery hadn't shown his full hand off the front at that stage. He really stuck to his task in the final furlong and began to increase the margin. The race was over in the closing stages as he powered three-and-a-half-lengths clear of Nancee Spain at 11/2 (from as big as 40/1 in the morning). Tickling, the 5/2 favourite, was another couple of lengths back in third. Jockey Slattery said: “He wasn’t winning out of turn. It wasn’t exactly a strong race, but he had been running consistently well in that grade. It’s just great to get it done for the owners (Joe Bolger) today. “Obviously, he took a heavy fall only a week-and-a-half ago (in Killarney), but he’s always schooled well at home and I’d say that the run over jumps probably did help him. “Hopefully he’ll be winning over jumps as well.” Additional reporting by Gary Carson
