Whiteoak good at Kempton

Whiteoak banished memories of a disappointing 2008-9 campaign with a silky-smooth display in the Starlight Children's Foundation Mares' Hurdle at Kempton.

The former Cheltenham Festival winner looked back to her best when providing trainer Donald McCain with a first Kempton winner.

Jason Maguire travelled powerfully in the slipstream of the leaders aboard the 6-4 favourite and she skipped away over the final flight to pull seven lengths clear.

Owner Brendan Richardson said: "She wasn't right last year but is better now and could be a World Hurdle horse.

"She didn't run her race in the Champion Hurdle last year and still has plenty of speed.

"There is no reason why she can't win a top race over two miles but the World Hurdle is an option and she did win the mares' race at Cheltenham over two miles and five furlongs."

William Hill quote the six-year-old at 4-1 for a repeat of her 2008 win in the mares' race while introducing her at 25-1 for the Ladbrokes World Hurdle, Sky Bet are 16s and totesport offer just 12s.
