Wicklow Brave 4th at Belmont There was no luck for the Willie Mullins runners in the Grade 3 Belmont Gold Cup Invitational Stakes with market leader Wicklow Brave finishing fourth at Belmont Park. Held up towards the back of the field through the two miler, Wicklow Brave came there with his chance in the straight under Javier Castellano. However he was run out of it for the bronze medal near the line. Up front it was the ex-Ballydoyle gelding Red Cardinal (by Montjeu out of the Zafonic mare Notable) that gained the day. The five-year-old is trained in Germany by Andreas Wohler and is owned by Australian Bloodstock Stable. Unraced for Aidan O'Brien Red Cardinal was a smart sort in Britain for David Simcock. Here he touched off another English runner, Mark Prescott's St Michel.
