Workforce set for King George favourtism Doubts about Workforce's participation in the Betfair-sponsored King George have seen him trade as big as 20/1 for the race in recent weeks but it is now predicted that he will go off as favourite on the day. That is the confident view of the sponsors - even though Workforce currently trades at 3.1 (21/10) on Betfair with St Nicholas Abbey the 2.72 (over 13/8) market leader. Betfair spokesman Tony Calvin commented: "Now the doubts about Workforce running in our race have seemingly been put to bed - although minor doubts about him running slightly bolster his current price - it strikes me that he is set to go off as favourite on the day. "Not only has he got the best form in the race, in fact Timeform have him a healthy 5lb clear of his main market rival, but he comes here on the back of a superb effort in the Coral-Eclipse and the ground looks to be coming in his favour, too. "Even allowing for the fact that his disappointing effort in the race last year may deter some, he looks a far more solid proposition than St Nicholas Abbey, for whom the jury is still out at this exalted level despite his Coronation Cup win. "In fact, I would personally have Aidan O'Brien's horse as the third favourite behind Rewilding; the odds simply look wrong to me." And Timeform's Kieran Packman added: "Workforce and Rewilding stand out on Timeform ratings for Saturday's race, though the prospect of regular rainfall between now and the weekend has to tilt things in favour of Sir Michael Stoute's four-year-old. "Workforce achieved his career-high rating on soft ground when winning last year's Arc, though Rewilding has only tackled ground softer than good on one occasion and it was a win (a minor event at Maisons-Lafitte on only his second racecourse outing). "His career-best effort last time out at Royal Ascot came on good to firm."
