World Has Haydock Mission

Material World is set to head to Haydock on Saturday week after missing an intended engagement at Sandown.

Suzy Smith's mare was due to tackle the totescoop6 Sandown Handicap Hurdle but was taken out of the Grade Three race as Smith was not totally happy with her.

'I just felt she wasn't 100%. She's had an overreach in the past which was why she had not run in a while and she just wasn't moving as well as we would have wanted her to yesterday,' Smith explained.

'She just wasn't quite right and wouldn't have been able to give her best.'

The nine-year-old has had just one start this term, winning a competitive event at Cheltenham last December, and Smith is keen to get another run in before deciding which race to target at the festival meeting.

'Hopefully she will go to Haydock on February 17 now. There's a couple of races for her, including a Pertemps qualifier,' Smith added.

'I wanted to run her yesterday to get an idea of where to go at Cheltenham. It really depends on her next run which race she will go for.

'If she wins she will go for the World Hurdle but if she doesn't, provided the handicapper doesn't clobber her, she will go for the Pertemps Final.'
