Youlneverwalkalone Under The Knife In Liverpool

Youlneverwalkalone underwent surgery on Sunday in the Leahurst Veterinary College in Liverpool after fracturing a cannon bone in Saturday's Grand National.

Speaking at The Curragh on Sunday Frank Berry, racing manager to the nine-year-old's owner JP McManus, said: 'Youlneverwalkalone fractured his off fore cannon bone. The operation seems to have gone well and it's a case of so far so good but we will just have to wait and see how he recovers.'

The major ante-post gamble on the horse ended after the 12th fence on a day when none of the big five in the biggest betting market of the year even threatened to play a part in the closing stages of the #600,000 contest.

Conor O'Dwyer, who rode the 8-1 joint second favourite, said: 'He was giving me a great spin but between the 11th and 12th fences I knew something had gone seriously wrong. I tried to pull him up but he went and jumped the fence before I was able to stop him.'
