A McMonagle 'special' in the last at Gowran Faro Island (13/2) came from a very unpromising position to take the finale at Gowran Park, the handicap for four-year-olds and upwards over nine and a-half furlongs. This was champion jockey Dylan Browne McMonagle at his brilliant best, as his mount didn't travel all that well in the first half of the race and was ridden with plenty to do from early in the straight.  The winning rider brought the four-year-old to the stands' rail over a furlong out, the route he had taken on his two earlier winners, and James Nicholson's Ulysses gelding stayed on well to lead on the line for a short-head success over Elusive Duke in a blanket finish. A delighted winning trainer Andy Oliver reported "It was a long layoff (before his fourth at Navan). He falls in a bracket now that there weren't very many opportunities for him, and this was the first one that presented itself, so we had to come.  "Dylan gave him a super ride. I think the delay at the start (Starting Monday ran loose after getting out under the stalls) caused everyone to be a bit lethargic away, but he kept plugging on and when he came, he kept coming."
