Air Force on the mend

Air Force One could yet run in the Hennessy Cognac Gold Cup at Leopardstown next month despite tearing muscles in his back during the King George VI Chase at Kempton.

Trainer Charlie Mann reckons the chestnut injured himself at the second fence, which caused him to put in a below-par effort. The seven-year-old, previously runner-up in the Hennessy Gold Cup at Newbury, was never travelling well under Barry Geraghty at Kempton eventually finishing a well-beaten fifth behind Kauto Star.

'Hopefully he will be ridden again next week. Then we will look to running him again either in the Irish Hennessy or in the Aon Chase at Newbury.'
