The Joseph O'Brien trained Alibah made a winning racecourse debut when staying on best to land the opening Irish EBF Auction Series Fillies Maiden at Gowran Park.

A daughter of Galileo Gold, the Dylan Browne McMonagle partnered 13/2 chance broke well from her inside draw to track the leader Sanctijude in the early stages.

Pushed along to close over two-furlongs out, the newcomer initially showed signs of greenness when asked to go and win her race.

However, once the penny dropped inside the final furlong, Alibah stayed on really well to lead close home for a three-quarter-length success.

“She won nicely. We were a little bit worried about the drying ground, we think she’ll handle softer,” said O’Brien.

“She got a lovely spot from a good draw which obviously is very important here. Dylan got to teach her a little bit and she came home nicely.

“Stuart Boman bought her at the breeze-ups for the Go Racing team and he was very keen on her at the sale.

“She looks like a nice filly for the future and she got a perfect start.

“We’ll try and find a winners median auction race somewhere. The programme book will dictate a little bit where we go but that would be my gut.”
