The All-Ireland Football semi-finals are set for Croke Park this weekend as Kerry, Tyrone, Donegal and Meath battle it out for the right to contest the 2025 All-Ireland SFC decider in a fortnight.

Kerry vs Tyrone on Saturday evening is the renewal of a classic modern day rivalry, while Meath's renaissance has been the story of the summer as they now face a seasoned Donegal outfit on Sunday.

The Tailteann Cup decider meanwhile pits Kildare against Limerick in the precursor to Saturday's semi-final at Headquarters.

  • Kingdom to outshine Red Hands

Kerry's season ignited in spectacular fashion in the last eight against Armagh as the Kingdom hit 13 unanswered points in the second half to obliterate the now-dethroned All-Ireland champions in a scintillating Croke Park display.

The trick now for Jack O'Connor and his Munster champions is to repeat the feat against a determined and often astute Tyrone side under the excellent guise of first-season boss Malachy O'Rourke.

Kerry were untouchable for that blissful spell in the second half but Armagh were caught in the headlights and didn't do much to get out of the glare as their season was derailed.

It can't be forgotten they'd gone five clear at one stage of a Kerry side almost entirely reliant on Sean O'Shea for scoring power. David Clifford's shooting must come to the fore earlier for Kerry in this semi-final.

Tyrone have done well to get this far but there hasn't been a great consistency to the Red Hands. Dublin's poor shooting aided them in the quarter-final and Kerry are likely to be ruthless in that department. That should swing things to the Kingdom.

    McGuinness' masterpiece coming together

Donegal's journey back to the semi-finals hasn't been foot perfect. They lost out to Tyrone in the round robin and had to overcome a seven-point half-time deficit against Monaghan a fortnight ago.

They have shown glimpses of their potential along the road this season and that, you tend to think, is how Jim McGuinness would want it.

Despite adding another Ulster title and returning to the semi-finals a year after losing by a point against Galway, Donegal haven't entirely shown their hand.

In his first stint in charge, McGuinness led Donegal to an unlikely semi-final in year one before capturing Sam Maguire in year two in 2012. Many believe he's en route to the Promised Land again.

Robbie Brennan's Meath have been the surprise package of the year, with wins over Dublin, Kerry and Galway in the Championship thus far. They did, however, leave the Leinster title behind in losing to Louth.

Jordan Morris and Mathew Costello have been sensational in attack for the Royals but the running power in Donegal's ranks from the likes of Peadar Mogan, Ciaran Moore, Ryan McHugh and Finbarr Roarty is a major worry.

Meath have something to build on regardless of the outcome, but with experienced heads like Michael Murphy and an in-form Michael Langan thriving, Donegal have the know-how to come through with a little bit up their sleeve.

    Kildare to battle past Limerick

The Tailteann Cup isn't where Kildare want to be but the Lilywhites are where performances in recent years dictate they belong.

Brian Flanagan's side secured promotion back to Division 2 in the Allianz League in the spring and are now on the verge of winning this secondary Championship silverware.

In the early round robin outings Kildare tallied 0-36 against Leitrim, 3-19 against Tipperary and 4-19 against Sligo. Limerick ran in big scores against Wicklow and Wexford but their clashes with Westmeath and Antrim were less frenetic.

Kildare only managed 1-13 in the semi-final win over Fermanagh and a relatively low-scoring Tailteann Cup decider could be in the offing as both counties look to get the job done at HQ.
