All-weather action returns at Dundalk tomorrow The recent cold snap is disrupting turf fixtures but Flat action will return on the Polytrack at Dundalk tomorrow evening despite snow and frost. There is a covering of snow at the north-eastern venue but Manager Jim Martin envisages no problems with the meeting going ahead. “We had a cold night and have a covering of snow at the moment but there is no further snow forecast and the meeting will go ahead as planned,” said Martin. “We have to clear some snow around the stableyard and other areas around the racecourse but there are no problems with the track. “We can also cope with very low temperatures so that is not an issue. “It’s good to see the races so well supported and we are delighted with the extra four meetings that have been allocated to Dundalk over the next few months.” The Find Us On Facebook @dundalkstadium Handicap is the most valuable event on an eight-race card beginning at 3.55pm, and the John McConnell-trained Make The Switch should appreciate this step up in trip after finishing strongly to score over 1m4f here last month. Leading course trainer Joseph O’Brien sends out three runners in this two-mile event including Scholastic who was runner-up over course and distance last time. McConnell has good prospects elsewhere on the evening with the hat-trick seeking Kudbegood in the Irishinjuredjockeys.com Handicap, while Kieran Cotter’s sprinter Dandy Spirit is also bidding for a hat-trick in the opening Happy New Year From Dundalk Stadium Handicap. Gavin Ryan makes a welcome return to action after a fall here at the end of November and the champion apprentice has five rides including four for trainer Ado McGuinness.
