Altimara opened her account when getting on top close home to defy topweight in the Tote Handicap at Leopardstown.

Trained by Ross O’Sullivan for Yvonne Lavin, the 13/2 co favourite of three struck the front inside the final 150 yards under Donagh O’Connor to beat Shelbourne Flyer by a length. Liamo was a further length and a quarter back in third with Lorr’s Girl completing the places in fourth.

O’Sullivan said, “As a two-year-old it looked like she was going to be a nice filly but is very big and maybe just got very weak on us.

“She then got very keen and wouldn’t settle in her races. It’s taken a long time for this to come together.

“The track suited well, and I’m delighted for Donagh O’Connor who is a great horseman and very underrated.”
