After nine starts as a maiden, this son of Calyx capitalised on a career-low mark of 55 and showed signs of a return to his two-year-old form. Always handy under Jimmy Dalton, he controlled the pace from second, behind his stablemate, before pouncing over a furlong out to take the initiative. The Men Of Forty Eight Syndicate's gelding ran on well inside the final furlong to win by three and a half lengths from the staying on Cause I Like You (8/1). The long-time leader, Sayonara (11/1), was a further three-quarters of a length back in third. Slattery said:- "I thought this horse would be rated a lot higher by now. "He was disappointing and was hanging in his races. Thanks to (vet) Ger Kelly he spotted a thing with kissing spines after his last run. We had him treated for it and it seems to have made a difference. "He didn't hang today and did everything right. "He had a good run when he was beaten a neck in a Curragh nursery last year and he was working like one of our best two-year-olds in the autumn. "He came here on his first run this year and ran badly. We brought him over the Ger and he found the problem. "I thought he'd be a horse in the mid 70s, at least, by now. "Hopefully there is more to come. It's only three weeks since he was done and he should improve a bit from the run. We didn't do a lot with him since." Additional reporting by Gary Carson.
