Archies Charm has Ulster National target Archies Charm could bid to give local trainer Brian Hamilton a second Ulster National at Downpatrick in March. The Shantou gelding won a handicap chase over an extended two miles seven furlongs at Downpatrick in September and finished runner-up in two of his last three outings, including behind a well-handicapped winner at Leopardstown over Christmas. "The Ulster National is the main aim. He has won over fences in Downpatrick and it should suit him. There's plenty of stamina in his pedigree," Hamilton said of the seven-year-old. "He might run in Down Royal in three weeks' time. We might try and get some prize money and not have him standing in the stables. He had a good run there (when runner-up in November). "He needs a bit of better ground and Leopardstown was the only place we could really go to. He could have run over 2m4f in Gowran Park or in the Porterstown in Fairyhouse, but they were on testing ground. "I had him entered in the Paddy Power (at Leopardstown), but he didn't make the cut. "I never had the opportunity to welcome my winner of the Ulster National back in, so it would be nice to win it again." Hamilton landed the Ulster National in 2010 with Chief Oscar who was fatally injured after passing the post.
