Despite being the fourth choice of punters in the five-runner Coolmore Stud Tipperary Stakes, Arugam Bay led from pillar to post under Chris Hayes.

Returned at 13/2 for this feature Listed contest, the Eddie and Patrick Harty-trained bay had all her rivals in trouble with over a furlong to go and ultimately eased to a length-and-three-quarters win.

Out of five-time winner Time Stands Still, the daughter of Soldier's Call was following up on her breakthrough success at Fairyhouse last month.

An also ran at Royal Ascot, First Approach (10/3) filled the runner-up spot, while the well-supported Fresh Fade (11/10 favourite, from 2s early) was a disappointing third, three-lengths off the runner-up.

"We've liked the filly since we got her in January, and she's just a quick, straightforward filly. We've never seen where the bottom is," Patrick Harty reflected.

"We've always thought she was a nice filly. We only ran her over six furlongs at Fairyhouse because she was so well treated in those auction races, and it didn't make sense to go elsewhere.

"We came here today quietly confident that her homework was suggesting that she would be good enough, not necessarily to do what she did there but to bring home black type.

"I'm impressed by what she did there because to go out in front is unusual for her, and she put them all under pressure a long way out. She's learning all the time, and is potentially a very good filly."

The winner is owned and bred by Michael Roe, son of nine-times Irish Flat champion jockey Johnny Roe.
