Ashkal 50-50 To Make Cambridgeshire

Ashkal Way´s participation in the totesport Cambridgeshire at Newmarket hinges on a crucial workout on Wednesday.

One of the ante-post favourites for the first leg of the Autumn Double, Ashkal Way sustained an injury on his latest outing at Newbury earlier in the month causing him to spend five days in his box and miss important work.

His trainer Brian Ellison described his chance of making it to post for the Cambridgeshire as '50-50, but getting better'.

Ellison said: 'Fortunately he´s a horse who does not need a lot of work but it´s vital for me to gallop him on Wednesday if we are to go to Newmarket.

'He´s been scanned and there is quite a lot of bruising in the joint although it is getting better. Obviously it will depend how he takes his work as to whether we can think about running.

'I had hoped to work him on Friday and I´m just keeping my fingers crossed he will come right in time for this gallop.'

The three-year-old chestnut was an unlucky seventh in the John Smith´s Stakes at the Berkshire track, having earlier scored decisively at Beverley.
