Bay Has Bright Future

Achill Bay could be a name to note for next season following his gritty success in the newmarketracecourses.co.uk Houghton Conditions Stakes.

Continuing Godolphin´s resurgent end-of-season form, the son of Peintre Celebre was caught out when the slow pace was suddenly raised to a full-out gallop inside the final two furlongs of the mile contest.

But gathering his mount up for a final rally out of the dip, Frankie Dettori got the 6-5 favourite together and brought him back past Red Rocks and Edaara - who dead-heated for second - to beat them by a neck.

'He´s not a speed horse but he needed to be to win that,' said Godolphin racing manager Simon Crisford.

'We tried to get him to settle better today than he did on his debut and he is a nice horse for next year.'
