Beacon Edge recovering from colic Plans for Beacon Edge are on hold after the Gigginstown-owned gelding was forced to miss an engagement at the Leopardstown Christmas Festival with colic. The seven-year-old son of Doyen was declared to run in the Matheson Hurdle but was unable to run after suffering a bout of colic which resulted in a number of worrying days for connections. “We were lucky with him. He spent three days down in Anglesey Lodge and they were able to treat him without needing any surgery. Hopefully he’ll recover quickly,” said trainer Noel Meade. Beacon Edge has won three of his six starts over hurdles including a Grade 3 at Galway and put in a career best effort in defeat last time when beaten less than a length in third behind Honeysuckle and Ronald Pump in the BARONERACING.COM Hatton’s Grace Hurdle. Meade added, “We don’t know how long it will take to get him right. He needed a lot of medication to get it sorted and we’ll take it day by day before making any plans.”
