Bridie’s Beau ran out a cosy winner of the novice handicap chase at Clonmel under a typically confident ride from Keith Donoghue.

The Gavin Cromwell-trained gelding travelled well to challenge two from home, but had to be popped the question after getting in tight at that fence.

He got to the front running down to the last and a good leap there settled matters as the 12/1 shot went on to post a two-and-three-quarter length success over Trasna Na Pairce

The winner was making his first start in handicap company over fences this afternoon.

"It is nice to get the yard a winner as there is plenty of people talking about our form. It just seems to be one of those things, so it is good to get a winner,” said Donoghue.

"That was the reason we couldn't have been fully confident in this lad coming here today, but he had a good run the last day when the race didn't suit him as they went slow.

"The deeper ground suited him today."
