Bewleys Berry Purchased By Wylie

Leading owner Graham Wylie has snapped up Bewleys Berry, a Gowran Park bumper winner, for a six-figure sum.

The six-year-old was trained in Co.Wexford by John Berry and will now join Wylie's jumping team cross-channel with Howard Johnson.

Wylie's other high-profile purchases include Royal Rosa, Inglis Drever, Chivalry and Valley Henry. He said during the week: 'He'd won a couple of point-to-points so Howard had heard about him, and we went to see him last Sunday, had a good look at him and decided to buy him.

'He's roughed off in a field now, but will go novice hurdling next season. Like the rest of my horses, you will not see them until late October at the earliest.'

John Berry said on Thursday: 'I can confirm that Bewleys Berry has been sold to Graham Wylie and he should do well for his new connections.

'He is a good horse and won three point-to-points for us before winning his bumper.'

Berry nurtured Fundamentalist to win two point-to-points before the six-year-old joined Nigel Twiston-Davies, who trained him to land the Royal & SunAlliance Novices' Hurdle at this year's Cheltenham Festival.

There could be another one to keep an eye on, according to Berry who added: 'We have a five-year-old full-sister to Bewleys Berry called The Wrens Nest and she will soon be starting off in a bumper.'
