Big Plans For Chapman Stalwart

David Chapman insists Quito can step up to Group One company if he does himself justice in the William Hill Superior Mile at the weekend.

The eight-year-old was a ready winner of the Countrywide Steel & Tubes Hopeful Stakes at Newmarket´s July course last time out and will bid for his second Listed victory in seven days at Haydock on Saturday.

Although heavy ground would be a concern at the Merseyside course, Chapman expects Quito to comfortably step back up to a mile after he was last seen over that distance finishing eighth behind Proclamation in the Sussex Stakes.

'If there´s any good in the ground we´ll be going but I wouldn´t want it to be heavy,' said the North Yorkshire handler.

'He´s in fine fettle after the run in the Hopeful, which was his finest performance so far.

'The handicapper has put him up to more than what he´s been before, but I think he gets a mile fair enough - there´s no point chickening out now.'

The son of Machiavellian is entered for the Group One Queen Elizabeth II Stakes and the Group Two totepool Diadem Stakes, with Chapman leaning towards a crack at the highest level.

'It depends how he goes on Saturday, but I would like to think he was good enough for the Group One,' added Chapman.
