Having shown promise, despite finishing unplaced, on his first two starts, Trojan Fighter (13/8 favourite) got off the mark in the BOYLE Sports Home Of Early Payout Maiden at Ballinrobe.

Stepping up to a trip just short of one mile, five furlongs, Paddy Twomey's Ulysses colt was to the fore early until settling in second after half-a-mile. In front again on the approach to the straight, he went away to readily account for 11-year-old Ballyadam by seven lengths.

Billy Lee, carrying the colours of Robert Moran and doubling up after an earlier success on Marmeladova said "Very happy with him today. It didn't work out for him at Cork, he was a bit slow away in the hood and with the short run to the first bend there, he jus didn't didn't get a run early on.

"This was always going to suit him better, up in trip. It still took him a furlong to get up and running, but then I was able to take a lead off Rory (Cleary on Oust and it was a nice race to ride in from there on.

When asked if he could be a Royal Ascot horse like last year's winner Carmers, who won the Queen's Vase on his next start, Lee added "He'd have to improve, Carmers was a horse who always kept plenty back for himself. He's still babyish and immature, and we'll see what the handicapper does. Something like the  Ulster Derby might suit him, or a race like the King George Cup at Leopardstown."
