Bob Bids for Kelso Double Catch Bob, who impressed many observers when winning a point-to-point at Kilworth in March 2008 when under the care of Sean Aherne, bids for his second win under Rules today at Kelso, when Graham Lee will get the leg-up on the Ferdy Murphy-trained five-year-old. From the family of Cousin Vinny, the Bob Back chestnut was described by Aherne as being the makings of a real nice horse though still a little weak. He was home-bred by his owner at that stage, Pat Droney from Lahinch, Co. Clare. Bought subsequently at the Brightwells Sale in Cheltenham for 80,000 sterling, Catch Bob now races in the colours of Kilkenny owner, John Dollard. He got a win on the board on his first encounter with good ground last time, three weeks ago over this course and stepping up a couple of furlongs in trip today is likely to do him no harm. Twenty one days ago he beat the gambled on Irish-raider, Bale O'Shea, by twelve lengths, with Keith Mercer in the saddle. Today he must contend principally with Any Given Day, a smart performer on the level who now has his first pop over flights for Donald McCain and Jason Maguire. Betting on the race this morning suggests that both horses are well-fancied and the other apparent big player, Seven Is Lucky has had his supporters too.
