Bolger booked for British raider Oliver Sherwood will use Mark Bolger to take a valuable few pounds from Eric's Charm's back in the Ellen Construction Thyestes Chase. The British raider will be saddled with close to top weight in the fiercely competitive three-mile handicap at Gowran Park on Thursday. Eric's Charm, second in what is now the Bet365 Gold Cup in 2006, is already in County Kilkenny. "He arrived there at eight o'clock this morning with my assistant," reported Sherwood on Tuesday morning. "There were a couple of reasons to run - I have always maintained he is better going right-handed and there are not a lot of races for him over here at the moment so the trip should suit him. "It is also very testing over there, which he will love as long as they race. "I have not noticed him in the betting but he's not going over there for the fresh air, that's for sure." Eric's Charm has run in plenty of other big staying handicaps and has been in reasonable form this season, finishing third in the London National at his favourite haunt Sandown but he was only a fair sixth at Ascot last time. Sherwood continued: "He's a little pro, the only question is whether he is good enough with all that weight as I expect there will be plenty of Irish horses who have been laid out for the race for two years! "That is why we have booked Mark Bolger to ride and he can take 5lb off. He is Jessie Harrington's boy. "You have to keep an eye on these things. It was either a question of trying to take a guy like Rhys Flint over but we weren't certain we could do that. "AP McCoy and Dominic Elsworth recommended Mark and I rang Jessie to make sure it was OK." Eric's Charm is a general 25-1 shot for the valuable prize.
