Brittain on form with Ascot double

Clive Brittain's golden summer continued as the veteran Newmarket trainer grabbed two of the main races on the King George undercard at Ascot.

Brittain's Misheer was on the mark in the Cherry Hinton Stakes a couple of weeks ago and after another two-year-old, Nideeb, grasped the Huggies Winkfield Stakes away from Party Doctor, Al Muheer produced another smash-and-grab raid in the £150,000 Abu Dhabi International Stakes.

Al Muheer, a 40-1 shot, had held the field up for a considerable time as he had to be reshod but maintained his composure for Seb Sanders.

Despite drifting across the track in the closing stages, Sanders had enough in the tank to steal the thunder of Hayley Turner and Secret Society (5-1) by half a length.

Secret Society's trainer Michael Bell also saddled the third home, Redford.

Richard Kingscote and Party Doctor (9-4) had first run in the Winkfield but Nideeb's partner Ryan Moore showed just why he is champion jockey and forced the Yarmouth maiden winner (11-2) in front by a nose.

Both horses carried the red and white colours of Brittain's long-standing supporter Saeed Manana.

"There are many days when you cry. I never cry when I lose but I enjoy myself when I win," said the trainer.

"Saeed Manana is one of the nicest guys you would ever meet. He knows his horses and he loves his horses."

This was probably Al Muheer's day in the sun, but of Nideeb, Brittain added: "This horse has a tremendous action but he's still a frame and he'll have a break now.

"The Royal Lodge is certainly on the cards."
