Ipanema Queen got first run on main market-rival Kansas and fended him off close home for Listed glory in the Curragh Stakes over five furlongs.

Dylan Browne McMonagle asked front-running Ipanema Queen to kick on for home a furlong and a-half down and she soon stretched her lead out.

Kansas really got motoring in the final furlong and was devouring the ground late on, but the line came in time for 6/5 favourite Ipanema Queen who clung on by a head over the 7/4 runner-up.

Adrian Murray said: “She’s done it very well. She’s a fast filly.

“I’d say she’ll go for the Flying Childers in Doncaster and she’ll probably go to the Breeders' Cup at the backend of the year.”

Ipanema Queen beat a big field in a Curragh maiden over six furlongs on debut before finishing 11th in the Group 3 Albany at Royal Ascot and runner-up in the Listed Marwell Stakes at Naas.

She brought up a double for Browne McMonagle who also won the opener on 5/1 shot Mushaffar for Joseph O'Brien.
