Buckets and spades at the ready! Laytown beach will host its annual racemeeting tomorrow, with the first of six races getting underway at 4.45pm. The six race card has for some years, due to measures to improve health & safety, been run over a maximum seven furlong straight but the layout continues to attract some of the top riders in the country to the Co Meath venue. Champion Jump Jockey Paul Townend is among the band of jump jockeys booked to ride while most of the top Flat jockeys are also due to compete with last Saturday’s Champion Stakes winning rider Seamus Heffernan pencilled in for four rides. Laytown doesn’t tend to attract many equine stars but the Claimer does catch the eye in that any of the ten runners can be claimed for just €5,000. Thomas Weekes
