Contorsion back in shape for Curragh success John Gleeson was the man on board as Contorsion won the Every Race, Every Moment 1xBet.ie Amateur Riders Derby at the Curragh this afternoon. On her second start for Joseph O'Brien, the Sue-Ann Foley-owned French import asserted well inside the final furlong to score by two and a quarter lengths from Willie Mullins’ 11/2 chance Absurde. At odds of 20/1, the Ciaran Murphy-trained Puppet Master was third, three-parts of a length away, with 6/5 favourite Shosholoza, another trained by Joseph O'Brien, half a length back in fourth place. Last year's winner Sirius was fifth home this time. “She’s a nice filly. She had a setback after her run in Gowran Park so she missed the summer,” said O’Brien. “I thought she’d come on for the run today to be honest. She probably has a little bit of class. You’d be excited about her prospect, medium to long-term. “There is a stakes race back here on the last day of the year or she could turn up in a mares’ maiden hurdle as well. “We’ll have a chat with Sue-Ann, JP (McManus) and Frank (Berry) and see what everyone would like to do next. “I think she’ll be a lovely dual-purpose filly. She’s lightly raced and there are hopefully plenty of good days ahead of her.”
