Bugs Moran made most to post a ready success in the Beasley Engineering Hunters Steeplechase over three miles in Listowel.

Michael Kenneally rode him to assert past the bypassed second-last fence and the pair were well in charge jumping the last.

A lovely leap saw him win by a more than healthy nine lengths at 10/3 from 15/8 favourite Bartlemy Boy who couldn't land a blow on him. Ontheropes (13/2) was a further two and three-quarter lengths away in third at 13/2. .

Eugene O'Sullivan said: "The reason Alan (O'Sullivan, nephew) picked the runner-up to ride was because this horse's jumping hadn't been good enough at Mallow or Killarney, where he made three or four mistakes.

"Mick (Kenneally) had given him a great ride to win at Dromahane previously and, in fairness, he is a 134-rated hurdler so was the class horse in the race if he jumped.

"I've been lucky to get him as horses like him don't come around very often."
