Bunyan delighted with successful raid Irish trainer Darren Bunyan was thrilled to secure his first triumph under Rules on British soil as Dazzle The Duel claimed victory on a rain-soaked afternoon at Newbury yesterday. The Co Kildare trainer actually enjoyed a taste of glory at the Cheltenham Festival a couple of years ago, with Age Of Glory landing the charity St Patrick's Day Derby. Bunyan's career has continued on an upward trajectory, enjoying a fine strike-rate with the handful of horses he trains on the Curragh, and he can now add a first British success under Rules to his CV after 16-1 shot Dazzle The Duel claimed a three-quarter-length victory in the Christopher Smith Associates Handicap under Leigh Roche. "Including the horse that won at Cheltenham, he (Dazzle The Duel) is my fourth runner in Britain, so it's great to get a winner under Rules on the board," said the trainer. "The horse has done it well. He obviously handled the soft ground well, but he's actually not that ground dependent. "We'll stick to handicaps at home and we'll see how he gets on, but I'm sure he's capable of picking up plenty of prize-money." Bunyan had high hopes of completing a double in the feature Bathwick Tyres St Hugh's Stakes, but Madame Thunder floundered in the mud and it was the Richard Hannon-trained Whatdoiwantthatfor who claimed top honours. Sent off the 11-4 favourite after finishing third in last month's Princess Margaret Stakes at Ascot, the Kodiac filly looked in trouble heading towards the final-furlong marker, but showed a smart to turn of foot for Pat Dobbs to reel in Thatsallimsaying and get up by half a length. Dobbs said: "The idea was to get her switched off early as she can over-race a little bit, but she settled fine. "When I pulled her out she lugged a little bit right and lost a bit of ground, but she picked up well the last furlong. "She's a bit excitable, but she got to the line well and now that she's settling better I think six furlongs will suit her better."
