Karl Burke has admitted to a slight concern about Venetian Sun showing in season earlier this week ahead of her run as favourite in the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai July Cup at Newmarket.

The three-year-old filly is unbeaten over trips less than seven furlongs and bagged her second Group One at Royal Ascot recently.

Despite having to take on older horses this weekend, she has been a hot favourite since then, but speaking on a call organised by the Jockey Club on Wednesday, Burke said he would be keeping a close eye on her in the lead up to the race.

Monitoring Star Filly Ahead of Group One Test

He said: “She takes her racing very well, she’s very professional, as you can see when you see her on the track. We’ve been very happy with her. She did a real good piece of work at the end of last week and did a little breeze yesterday.

“She did show a little bit in season yesterday, which we’ve never really noticed before, so we’ll keep an eye on that, but she hasn’t shown any signs this morning, so hopefully that’s nothing.

“I’d be lying if I said it didn’t (concern me). But some fillies seem to cope with it and it means nothing. Others, it can affect them. I’m hoping that she doesn’t show any signs of being in season now for the rest of the rest of the week, but it’s something that we will monitor.

“I mean, for example, Evolutionist who runs on Friday in the Falmouth, she went to went to France last time and she came into season an hour before us saddling her and she never ran a race at all.

“At the same time, Aidan’s filly (O’Brien) that won the race Diamond Necklace she was she was showing in season going around the pre-paddock and she won, but did she put her best foot forward? I’m not so sure, but she did win the race. So yeah, ideally you wouldn’t want it, but look, that’s an issue that every trainer with a filly has throughout the year, especially this time of year.”
