Byrne looking forward to flagship meeting at Tramore Owen Byrne, general manager at Tramore Racecourse, is looking forward to the traditional New Year's Day meeting at the Graun Hill venue on Monday next. Won last year by 2021 Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Minella Indo, the Grade 3 Savills New Year's Day Chase is again likely to attract a strong field. The Beat Hollow bay was a poignant winner under Rachael Blackmore for the local yard of Henry de Bromhead, with the Knockeen handler tragically losing his son Jack a few months earlier. "It was a very special day and I don’t think we thought it would come off," Byrne commented. "The crowd really made a huge effort and it was like something you’d see in Cheltenham or like everyone running to see Hurricane Fly at Leopardstown back in the day. They all flocked to the parade ring. "I was talking to a couple of the jockeys, Paul Townend and Rachael (Blackmore) and they said they could feel the noise on their back protectors as they came by the line, so it was very special day and hopefully we will replicate something similar again."
