Trainer Charles Byrnes is hoping to continue a good spell of recent form with maiden hurdler Munsif at Fariyhouse on Wednesday.

A three-time Flat winner for Roger Varian, the son of Sea The Stars finished third on his hurdling debut at Leopardstown over Christmas and on Wednesday takes on previous jumps winners in the Tote Guarantee, Never Beaten By SP Hurdle.

Byrnes reports “Munsif ran a good race at Leopardstown. I would have preferred if the race was on last Saturday as scheduled), with the better ground, as I’d say the ground might be an issue with him now on Wednesday.

“He’s getting 5lb off the big two (Macho Man and Proactif) but, if they are half as good as they are supposed to be, we probably shouldn’t turn up. He’s a nice horse.”
