The Betfred Cambridgeshire at Newmarket is a potential target for impressive recent Ascot scorer Portage.

The Teofilo colt won a Curragh maiden last season for trainer Mick Halford and although he finished down the field on his return to action at the same track, he headed to Royal Ascot as a leading contender for the Britannia Handicap.

Portage again failed to get competitive in the Godolphin silks after a troubled passage, but was able to show his true colours in a competitive heat in Berkshire last month.

While Halford has not yet confirmed future plans with the Godolphin team, he sees the Cambridgeshire on September 26 as a possible option.

"He came out of Ascot in very good form and I've been happy with him since," said the Kildare-based trainer.

"He might get an entry in the Cambridgeshire. We'll have a look at that and see where we go."
