Charmian Hill's great-granddaughter wins in Dawn Run's colours Dawn Run’s enduring racing colours were worn to victory at Sligo today by Charmian Hill’s great-granddaughter Gabriella Hill, who landed the Guinness Handicap on the Henry De Bromhead-trained Trubshaw (4/1). Hill, 18 when riding her first winner on Glor Tire in June 2024, today made most of the running on Trubshaw who was strongly pressed by runner-up God The Highness, but held on well for an all-out head success. It was Hill’s third win which reduced her claim to 7lb but, more importantly, was a first in her family’s famous colours of Dawn Run, who is the only horse to complete the Champion Hurdle/Gold Cup double (in 1984 and ‘86). Regarding today’s success and an impending move to England, jockey Hill commented “it’s great to get a win in the family colours and Trubshaw has come on a lot in his last few runs. He was lovely and relaxed today. “I’m getting the boat over to Newmarket on Monday to join Stuart Williams. He has a good few horses and I’m looking forward to it.” Dawn Run’s colours have reappeared on Irish racecourses in recent times with today’s winner Trubshaw being registered to Benjamin Hill & Miss K.A.
