Chepstow called off Chepstow's meeting this evening has been abandoned on safety grounds after the course was hit by further heavy rain overnight. An inspection as held at 8am and a further one pencilled in for 12 noon but that was called off after further consultation. "We had an eight o'clock inspection and there was standing water on parts of the course," clerk of the course Keith Ottesen told At The Races. "We've just re-evaluated the whole situation. We called another inspection at midday hoping we could clear this up somehow and get some improvement. "We've taken some advice. Ron Harris, one of our local trainers, has been to the track. We've been talking with Fergus Sweeney, who is the jockeys' safety officer and Peter Hobbs of the British Horseracing Authority. "They asked if the water would go and I said it was unlikely. The ground underneath it is still going to be very waterlogged. "We've come to the conclusion now we are going to do away with the midday inspection and I'm very sad to say that racing at Chepstow this evening has been abandoned."
