Chic Heads Stoute Chariot Trio

Chic will bid to go one better than 12 months ago when she lines up for the Kingdom of Bahrain Sun Chariot Stakes at Newmarket on Saturday.

The five-year-old mare was runner-up to Attraction in the Group One feature last season and comes to the mile contest in top form, having won the Celebration Mile at Goodwood for the second year running and finishing an unlucky second again to Attraction in the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown.

Chic is one of three runners from Sir Michael Stoute´s stable among a field of 10 declared for the Sun Chariot at the 48-hour final stage.

Her stable companions are Windsor Forest Stakes winner Peeress, who like Chic is owned by the Cheveley Park Stud, and Favourable Terms.

Maktoum Al Maktoum´s filly was successful at Doncaster three weeks ago in her first race since she lifted the Nassau Stakes at Goodwood in July 2004.

German raider Shapira, trained by Andreas Lowe, adds spice to the contest having run Divine Proportions to two lengths in the Group One Prix d´Astarte on her latest start.

Attune, Musicanna and Summitville are the other older horses in the line-up making seven taking on a trio of three-year-old fillies.

The current Classic generation are represented by Maids Causeway, Penkenna Princess and Virginia Waters.

The latter, trained by in Ireland by Aidan O´Brien, beat Maids Causeway by two and a half lengths in the 1000 Guineas and was half a length behind Chic when third in the Matron Stakes.

Maids Causeway, from Barry Hills´ stable, is returning from an injury received during her brave short-head victory over Karen´s Caper in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot at York.

Penkenna Princess, trained by Ralph Beckett, went down narrowly to Saoire in the Irish 1000 Guineas with Maids Causeway back in fifth and Virginia Waters eighth.
