Following Thursday's declaration stage, Clondaw Warrior was first reserve for the race, which has a safety limit of 20. Frankie Dettori had originally been booked to ride Clondaw Warrior, who is part-owned by the wives of jump jockeys Ruby Walsh and David Casey, but he then switched to Mullins' other runner Wicklow Brave. Quest For More had been declared for the Ebor but was expected to take his chance in Friday's Lonsdale Cup but when he was taken out of that on Thursday on account of the ground, Clondaw Warrior's backers feared the worst. However, trainer Roger Charlton stated that with the ground still riding on the soft side of good it was unlikely his Northumberland Plate winner would take his chance and he was good to his word, pulling out the top-weight to enable Mullins a second shot at the prize. Charlton tweeted: "Quest for More a non runner in the Ebor, allowing @WillieMullinsNH Clondaw Warrior to sneak in." Dettori has switched back to his original mount and Jack Kennedy on Wicklow Brave, claiming 7lb.
