Connections appeal Gowran suspensions Connections of the placed horses suspended in the HPR Fleet Management Beginners Steeplechase at Gowran have appealed against the penalties imposed after a running and riding enquiry on Saturday. Cloudy Morning finished runner-up to facile winner General Principle in the two-and-a-half mile contest, just edging the second place from the only other finisher Theturnofthesun. Both horses were found in breach of Rule 212 (a) (ii) which states:- "Horses shall not be run in races where they are in a condition which would preclude their chances of winning nor shall they be run for the purpose of giving them a school." The Stewards fined trainer Declan Queally €2,000 and suspended "Cloudy Morning" for 42 days. They also suspended his rider B.J. Foley for 5 racedays and ordered that he forfeit his riding fee. They also fined trainer Matthew J. Smith €2,000, suspended A.E. Lynch for 5 racedays and also ordered that he forfeit his riding fee and furthermore suspended Theturnofthesun for 42 days.
