Cross makes first start for Gosden

Flying Cross will have his his first start for John Gosden after a recent transfer from Aidan O'Brien as part of a three-strong British raiding party for Sunday's Prix Royal-Oak at Longchamp.

Essentially the French St Leger, the near-two mile Group One has also attracted the Michael Jarvis-trained Opinion Poll and Ralph Beckett's Vulcanite.

Gosden has booked William Buick for Flying Cross, who was bought by Robin Geffen, part-owner of St Leger winner Arctic Cosmos, after finishing third in the Irish Leger on just his fourth start.

Opinion Poll (Philip Robinson) enjoyed his best moment when winning the Lonsdale Cup at York, while it will be a marked step-up for Vulcanite (Jim Crowley) after winning four straight handicaps.

Arc weekend winners Celtic Celeb, Maria Royal and Prix du Cadran hero Gentoo lead the home challenge in the 10-strong field.
