Crystal Kept Over Hurdles

Crystal D´Ainay´s return to chasing has been put on hold after the six-year-old delighted Alan King in the Long Distance Hurdle on Saturday.

King´s charge travelled sweetly throughout the extended three-mile event at Newbury and stayed on gamely to take third place behind Inglis Drever and Baracouda.

Crystal D´Ainay was set for a return to the larger obstacles but will instead remain over the timber, for the time being at least.

'The Long Walk Hurdle at Windsor on December 16 is likely to be Crystal D´Ainay´s next target,' revealed the Barbury Castle-based handler.

'Inglis Drever and Baracouda are exceptional horses and we were absolutely delighted to finish so close to them.

'Crystal D´Ainay seemed to enjoy being ridden a bit more handily and the form he showed in being beaten just over four lengths may have been a career best.

'We´ll stick with the hurdles and see how we get on,' King told the Racing Post.
