Cornmarket (11/2) enhanced his fine course record when recording his third win of the season at Sligo in the concluding 3m1f handicap hurdle.

After tracking the leaders, Alan King's mount went on after the third-last and battled well on the run-in to repel the challenge of Ilbdare by a length and a half.

King picked up a four-day suspension for a breach of the whip rules, with the stewards of the opinion that he hadn't not given his mount enough time to respond to his use of the whip.

Trained just outside Ballina by John Cullen, the Elzaam gelding had won twice over 2m4f at Sligo earlier in the year.

Cullen, who owns the winner in partnership with Michael Barrett, said: "We weren't sure whether to go for the two and a half mile race today, or step him up to this trip, but he always gave me the impression that there's no end to him, and he stayed at it well. I'm thrilled with him.

"He has the option of going back over fences but we might stick to hurdles for the time being.

"I might give him another run and finish up until the spring then.

"I have a few more young horses in that I like, but they're going to take a bit of time. This lad is the stable star at the moment!"
