CURRAGH AND NEWMARKET LINK Classic racecourses Newmarket and the Curragh have twinned in what is believed to be the first such arrangement between British and Irish tracks.Newmarket, the headquarters of British Flat racing, stages the first two Classics of the seasons, the 2000 and 1000 Guineas. The Curragh, who kick off the new domestic flat season next Sunday March 23rd, stage all five Irish Classics. The main aim is to encourage Newmarket and the Curragh to visit each other`s course and for local trainers to send more runners across the Irish Sea.In addition, each course will have a reciprocal sponsorship on each other`s 1000 Guineas day.'We are delighted to have forged this exciting link with the Curragh who approached us with the idea last year,' said Newmarket`s managing director Lisa Hancock.'There is such a great symmetry between the two courses, each being surrounded by training stables and each uniquely located at the heart of the heart of their country`s Flat racing industry.'
