Curragh opener has intriguing look

Teofilo, who jointly tops the Stan James list at 4/1 with Dylan Thomas, to be leading first season sire (number of individual winners in Great Britain and Ireland in the 2011 flat season) has a representative in the opener at the Curragh on Sunday, the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

The filly Teolane, out of the Masnada, is the fifth foal of the dam and she is a half-sister to the ten to twelve furlong winner Malande and Duaiseoir. Masnada was a useful mile to mile and a quarter winner and she is a half-sister to six to nine furlong winner Windy Project.

Teolane will sport the silks of Jackie Bolger and of course Teofilo was an exceptional two-year-old for her husband Jim, winning all his five races in the manner of a true professional. Injury prevented him running again and his trainer remains convinced that he would have won the Derby.

Teofilo is a son of Galileo and many hold the view that his offspring will improve at three.

Excellent Art, 6/1 in the Stan James list, has two engaged in Sunday's Curragh five furlong heat – Boris Grigoriev (Michael Tabor) for Ballydoyle and Raphael Santi (Derrick Smith).

Strategic Prince (10/1) has Jkt Prince among the entries for Mark Loughnane. Red Clubs (5/1) could have Pinkisthecolour in there pitching for the Kevin Prendergast yard.
