Henry de Bromhead plans on having between 30 and 40 in training over the summer, with the Galway Festival a focal point for many of his team.

The Waterford trainer enjoyed a stellar 2019/20 campaign finishing third in the table with 79 winners and over €2m in prize money, while the Cheltenham Festival victories of Honeysuckle and Put The Kettle On added further lustre.

De Bromhead has won the Galway Plate twice in the past five years with Shanahan’s Turn and Balko Des Flos, while Due Reward made a bold bid to make all when runner-up to Tudor City in the Galway Hurdle last summer.

“Sub Lieutenant was going to go for the Aintree National so he will probably head for the Galway Plate if hopefully that all goes ahead. Unfortunately Poker Party has an injury and will be out for a while," he said.

“Moon Over Germany ran well in the County Hurdle (sixth behind Saint Roi) and Galway could be an option for him. He hurdles well and has also done well over fences.

“Due Reward ran a cracker last year, while Jan Maat will also be aimed towards Galway.”

The prospect of the BoyleSports Irish Grand National being rescheduled for later this year will be filtered into the plans for many quality staying handicap chasers and de Bromhead is likely to have a number of contenders.

“We’ll have to see how it all unfolds but Plan Of Attack is certainly one we were thinking of running in it. He ran really well in the Kim Muir and I was delighted with him," he said before adding "Sub Lieutenant is another one that we could have for Fairyhouse.”
