Dead-heat in the RSA Thoroughbred Stakes Trumpet Major and Archbishop shared victory in the RSA Thoroughbred Stakes after the judge called a dead-heat finish. Richard Hannon's Trumpet Major was 6-1 to bounce back from a disappointing performance when favourite for the Irish 2,000 Guineas and was given a confident ride by Richard Hughes. He looked set to win outright when moving to the lead inside the final furlong, but Brian Meehan's 10-1 shot Archbishop stuck to his guns well in the hands of Frankie Dettori and the two passed the line as one. The unluckiest horse in the race was undoubtedly Aljamaaheer. The joint-favourite was stuck on the rail at a crucial stage before flashing home once the gap came to finish third and may well have been the victor with a clearer passage. Hughes said: "He led them down to the furlong pole in the Guineas after going a good gallop. He went to Ireland and got sick but we knew he was sick and thought that if we could get him back to his right form he'd take all the beating. "I had to wait for a gap and then when I got out I had to remember I was the only one with a 4lb penalty so I just sat for a few more strides before I went which was just as well because I only just hung on. "It felt like Frankie's horse was ahead of me because he was quite a bit bigger but at the same time my lad's head was down and he's like a little terrier." Dettori said: "I'll be honest, when it's that close you don't really know but my horse was very courageous and if it wasn't for a bad draw he probably would have won outright. Two teams are happy so everything's good, he's my first winner this week."
