Death of John Daly

John Daly (90), for many years a leading racing figure in the west, has passed away.

Former trainer Daly, associated with horses such as Desu Barker, Pongo's Fancy, Western Problem, Musical Doll, Proud Madam and Ballymac Lad, operated for many years from Lough Mask House Ballinrobe County Mayo.

Pongo's Fancy was to become the dam of the high-class hurdler-chaser Bula who won two Champion Hurdles.

Utilising his location, Daly was ahead of his time, swimming his horses, and he was the first Connacht trainer to have a two-year-old runner in Royal Ascot.

John Daly, Lough Mask House, Ballinrobe, Co. Mayo. January 31st 2021. Survived by his loving wife Patricia, son Alan, daughter Jane, daughter in law Gwen, grandchildren Lorcan, Alanna, Emily and Laura, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

May he rest in peace.

Funeral Mass on Tuesday Feb 2nd at 12 noon in Saint Mary of the Rosary Church, Cong, Co. Mayo with burial afterwards in Ballyhola Cemetery.

Mass will be streamed on Burke Funeral Directors Clonbur facebook page.
