Deegan looking forward to Bobbyscot

Paul Deegan is looking to give his promising three-year-old colt Bobbyscot his seasonal debut in the Ballysax Stakes at Leopardstown on April 18th.

The Curragh trainer believes the son of Alhaarth will relish a step up to middle distances and so is unlikely to take up an entry in the Irish 2000 Guineas.

Bobbyscot showed decent form as a juvenile, winning his maiden at Leopardstown and finishing fifth to St Nicholas Abbey in the Beresford Stakes at the Curragh in September.

He did, however, disappoint on his final start in October when last of 10 at Dundalk in a Listed race.

"He's looking like a horse we'll need to step up in trip. He looks more like a mile-and-a-quarter, mile-and-a-half type horse, so we might start him off in the Derby trial, the Ballysax," said Deegan.

"He had good form as a two-year-old and he has lengthened and grown over the winter. He looks like he will stay a bit further now.

"We just put a line through his last run of the season at Dundalk. We don't think he liked the surface.

"I think he's better if we just let him settle into his races in his own time. At Dundalk we just tried to get cover a bit and that wasn't his day."
